REGARDING RELIGIOUS PERSECUTION

Whereas, we note with growing alarm and concern that Christians in India have been the target of reprehensible persecution in the form of physical attack, grievous bodily injury and death, and destruction of church and private properties; and

whereas, despite the lapse of time, the authorities have failed to take any effective action against the culprits who are mostly self-styled defenders of the "Hindu" faith; and

whereas, the events in India are a part of a growing world trend, such as the suppression of house churches in China and other forms of persecution in Indonesia, Egypt, Ulster, and other places; therefore be it

Resolved: That this Congress strongly condemns these atrocities which are an open violation of basic human and constitutional rights, contrary to all claims made by reasonable governments committed to the principles of religious freedom; and be it further

Resolved: That we further call upon these governments to immediately apprehend the criminal elements responsible for these atrocities and to also take prompt steps to protect the Christians from any further violence. Failure to do so is criminal in itself.
